Who is your Inspiration?

This is the first assignment for the A5, sixth grade class.  We started our class by addressing the questions: What is inspiration?  What is motivation?  We then watched the following clips:
Shane Koyczan's To This Day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltun92DfnPY

Unbroken: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26U_seo0a1g

Why Do We Fall?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgmVOuLgFB0

Afterwards we discussed each clip and what they were about.  We talked about what worked and what did not work in each video clip.  The students then worked on their own writing assignment about What is their motivation/ inspiration?  They also had to talk about Who is their Inspiration?  The results are the following.  Please enjoy:

Geoffrey Callahan:

                                 My inspiration MEGHAN CRAAYBEEK
Meghan Craaybeek is my inspiration because she witnessed her mom and dad die before she was 14 years old. Even after her mom and dad died, Meghan was still a bright and cheery person. Meghan won the Sawyer Medal in 9th grade. She also went to Arizona which was her mother's dream to go to. She went to Arizona when her mom still had cancer. Whenever she hurts herself she breaks down, not crying, but laughing.
This is Meghan.

This is her mom.

Johnny Ho:

Derrick Rose is my inspiration. Not only was he a great basketball player, but very inspiring. Derrick blew out his knee three times, and when I mean blew out his knee, his tendons literally ripped. Most basketball players would retire, but Derrick kept on thriving. Derrick recovered in four months, but an average person would usually take a around an year and a half. Another reason why he was so inspiring, is because he made a large amount of money, but he only played basketball because he enjoyed it so much. That’s why I think he is so inspiring.

Nicholas Rapchuck:

My inspiration is Lou Gehrig. He is the person I admire because he is one of the greatest home run hitters of all time. I also want to grow up to be as close as good as he was. Lou Gehrig was on the New York Yankees. He was also a very nice person. He was a lefty like I am. Even though Lou had a hard childhood, baseball was a thing he loved. He played for the Yankees for 17 seasons! Sadly, he died on June 2, 1941 from what is called Lou Gehrig disease.                                                                                                                                          This is a picture of him when he played for the Yankees.

Jessica Green Burke:

                                                 My inspiration

                                  My brother Matthew Green- Burke

Why he inspires me is because he is always telling me I can do it and he motivates me all the time. He says I can do anything and helps me when I hurt. He helps me out with homework and shows me how to throw a football or basketball. He is a good brother and he would do anything to keep  me happy and  motivated. That is why my brother inspires me.

Jack Patten:

My Inspiration

Someone who I look up to is Wayne Gretzky. He is the best hockey player ever to play hockey. He  played for the Edmonton Oilers and the Los Angeles Kings. He played in the NHL (National Hockey League) for many years and is now retired. I look up to him not because he is the best hockey player in the world, but what he did to get there. Wayne Gretzky was the person who didn’t care if he played in the NHL, he just loved to play hockey. He was the person who never quit no matter the circumstances. He would get knocked down, but he would get back up. That is why he was so successful. This is why I look up to Wayne Gretzky.

Jakob Parpart:

Julian Edelman is my inspiration because he plays on the Patriots and he never gives up and he has been playing for a long time.

Isabelle Nixon:

My Inspiration is…….

By: Isabelle Nixon

My inspiration is someone who has been through a lot . This is Gabby Douglas. If you don't know who this is, she is a gymnast who was the first African American to win a gold at the Olympics. She has had a lot of bumps in the road. She is my inspiration because after all she went through as a child, she still succeeded in accomplishing her goals. Ever since she was 6 years old she has wanted to go to the Olympics and win . Everyone at the studio knew, too. When she was 8 she began competition and won almost all her meets. At 14, one of the hardest things ever happened in her career . She left her family and went to go live in Iowa with a family willing to take her so she could train with coach Liang Chow, the coach of an award winning gymnast. For 2 years she went to train and improved every day . She has gotten injuries though. She pulled her hamstring by practicing too hard . Once she was fully recovered she began training once again . In her career, she had some regrets about being a gymnast. In 2012, she went to compete with the American Girl Gymnastics team. She won a gold medal for all around. At that time she became the first African American to receive a gold

Jordan McAuliffe:

My inspiration is my mom because when I want to give up, she won't let me. She helps me up when I fall down. She raised me like she was my dad. My dad left when I was two. My step-dad left when I was 8. After that, she raised me again like she was my dad. She has been working very hard for money to buy a house because we have been sleeping on peoples couches since February of 2013. We had a house fire. That is why. She acts positive when she is sad and negative. She is always going to school things even when she has to cancel for work. She had knee surgery. They cut her knee open and broke it. She went back to work 4 weeks later and she was still in pain but she needed the money for food and other things. My mom takes care of me even when she does not feel good. She cooks for me, pays my phone bill and other things. That is why mom is my inspiration.

Daniel Hafey:

                                             My inspiration is MOOKIE BETTS

Mookie Betts is my inspiration because whatever he does he is always happy. If he makes a catch that is basic, he is smiling and laughing about it. If he makes a good catch, he is even happier (who wouldn't be). Even if he strikes out or something, he's happy. He plays on the Boston Red Sox and leads off playing center field. this a picture of Mookie Betts

Avery Emerson:

                                                              MY INSPIRATION

The person who i look up to is Odell Beckham Jr. The reason i look up to him is because he is my favorite player in the NFL. The reason he is my favorite football player is because the famous catch he made. When ever i am playing football i think of him, because he is my inspiration and whenever i think of him, i want to try harder. I really want to meet him and maybe get an autograph and get pictures. It would be really cool. I would also  want to go to one of his games so i can watch him play in a stadium. i would have so much fun. Those are some of the reasons he is my inspiration.

    Who is my Inspiration?

My inspiration is Rob Gronkowski.  He is a offensive tight end for the New England Patriots.  He played college football at the University of Arizona.  He was born May 14, 1989.  Rob was the 42nd pick in the 2nd round of the 2010 NFL draft.  The reason he is my inspiration is because he has come back from many injuries and is still good.  I like that he never backs down or gives up.

Zaila Dort:

I am inspired by the athlete Abby Wambach. She is my inspiration because she is a female soccer player that is one of best players in the league. She is also a amazing soccer player and won’t give up. Also she plays a position that I play in soccer which makes me conect to her more. Another reason she is my inspiration is because people sometimes say that girls can’t do something, yet she proves that she is astonishing and there is more to girls than other male athletes think. She is a fighter and everyone who is her fan knows that she won’t let another girl (or anyone) push her, shove her, or underestimate her. She has team spirit and is not afraid to show it. She rises above other soccer players and America loves her for that. She is confident, beautiful, and will always be an inspiration to me. She has friendship with her teammates and loves what she does.

She likes to get good grades. She likes to have fun and is focused on school and her work.Lacey is the person I look up to.

Anthony Simonelli:

My inspiration is Vince Wilfork because he plays the same position as me and whenever I play I try to play better than the last time. When he played for the Patriots he was the best on the defensive line.Vince Wilfork went to University of Miami and was drafted to the Patriots and was the 21st overall pick and was the best Miami Hurricane defensive tackle since Damione Lewis in 2001.
